Why does the devil exist?

Many wonder why does the devil exist… Did God create the devil? Why would God create this devil as it seems to be getting in the way of people bringing glory to God. What is the purpose of the devil?

Let’s look at what the Bible says about creation. Colossians 1:16 states that God created everything. This indeed includes the devil. But many wonder why would God do such thing? If the devil did not tempt Adam and Eve, the apple from the Tree of Knowledge would not be eaten and sin itself would not have happened. Who created sin? Why does sin exist?

It all comes to God wanting us to have a good relationship with Him. Psalm 23 states that the LORD is our Shepherd, and He leads us through the darkest valley and prepares a table for us in the presence of our enemies. Why on earth would God do that? This is for us to develop a close relationship with Him. If there are two friends, they will stay good friends when nothing happens. But the test to see if they are true best friends is when they go through challenges, gaining trust, etc. It takes challenges to build trust and relationships therefore God wants us to rely on Him whenever there is trouble so that we know Him more.

Therefore, during times of trials and temptations, we should rejoice (James 1) as God wants to build a closer relationship to us. Thank God for giving you the opportunity to develop perseverance and to rely on Him for everything!

Demons are for real

During my evangelical trip, I have encountered many demon possessed people and evil spirits. I prayed and asked in the name of Jesus for the demons and evil spirits to be cast out. Meeting a demon-possessed man is something extreme since we don’t usually find them here in North America. They would usually be sent directly to mental institutions and be pronounced, “a man/woman with mental illnesses/disabilities”. Many do not know that in these cases when there is no cure, we have a healer, Jesus where when we ask in His name, it will be done. This applies when we are asking with the right motives, with confidence aligning ourselves to God’s sovereign will.

Sometimes, when things are not going well in our lives, and when we reflect that we have not sinned, evil spirits are trying to mess us up. More often than enough, we do not realize they are evil spirits and classify them as “earthly matters”. This can range from everyday relationship problems to things that go supernaturally wrong. It is up to us to ask God with confidence to cast out these evil spirits in Jesus’ name and it will be done.

The devil does exist but he is limited. In Job 1, the devil had to ask God for permission to go and harm Job’s family. Being made in the image of God, we are victors of the devil as in Matthew 4, Jesus is a victor. We do not need to worry about the devil, because as we develop a relationship with Jesus, we have angel armies standing by our side protecting us. All we need to do is equip ourselves to fight against the devil by looking into God. Don’t be scared of the evil one but be aware that it exists!
